✖ that one night I walked in my sleep…

I used to walk in my sleep a lot when I was younger. Apparently, that's something that kids do sometimes. And I did it quite often, especially if I wasn't at home. Perhaps that was a way I coped with something that had happened during the day. I really don't know why people walk in their sleep at times. But when I do, it's usually the middle of a Winter.

Last time I walked in my sleep, I was 10. I walked out from our front door in the middle of the night, in Winter, wearing only my jammies and wool socks. My mum had woken up to it thankfully, so she came to collect me there and I heard about it the next morning I woke up.

That was the last time, until last week. Last week, I walked in my sleep again. And I don't know why I'm interested in leaving the building I am in when I walk in my sleep. Perhaps that's the way my mind tells me I've been at the same place for too long, who really knows? But it could have been dangerous as fuck.

We were out last Saturday evening to celebrate my friend's new home. We got home around three in the morning and I went to bed almost straight away. You know, that random moment when you wake up and you have locked yourself outside of your own apartment and you're standing in your building's hallway wearing nothing but your oversized t-shirt and wondering what the actual fuck you are doing there? No? Just me? Okay.

the upsides
✖ we live in an apartment building, so I didn't wander outside in the actual snow inferno that was on
✖ I decided to wear a t-shirt when I went to bed
✖ it was the middle of the night, so I believe none of my neighbours saw me
✖ my husband woke up to let me in

the downsides
✖ I could have gone out in the snow half-naked
✖ my husband sleeps pretty deeply, so it took a while
✖ I could have slept naked like I usually do

It is so confusing to wake up from your hallway, wonder what the fuck you are doing out there when last moment you remember is placing your head on your pillow in your own bed.

Have you ever walked in your sleep?

  4. Oh no I’m glad you didn’t actually go out in the snow and were at least wearing a t-shirt! I’ve never sleep walked but it sounds pretty terrifying. My little brother sometimes talks in his sleep though and when we had to share a room on holiday it scared the life out of me! He’d sit up, say something random then go back to sleep...I’m glad we’re too old to share rooms now haha!
